DROP OUT LUNCHEON
September’s "Drop Out Luncheon" - that’s the day
after Labour Day, remember? - for
those of us who no longer “go back
to school”! Retired
teachers of
the Saint John Branch meet at a local venue to enjoy a "Drop Out Luncheon" buffet.
Organized by the local executive, attendees
include many new retirees , a goodly
number of recently-retired folk, and a host
of members of long standing.
The "Drop Out Luncheon" was
inaugurated as a means of welcoming new
retirees into the local NBSRT Branch by
providing an informal setting prior to the
Fall Meeting & Luncheon held in
October. The smaller function offers an
opportunity to meet-and-greet our newest
retirees in a relaxed atmosphere.
Fellowship, friendship, good food and good
conversation are the order of the day
as we celebrate our careers!

USING THE SUGGESTION BOX!
Just in case you might have thought suggestion boxes are all window dressing and their contents almost always ignored, the Saint John Branch has a message for you. They really work!
The executive of the Saint John branch has put ideas collected from you into play – offering evening socials, afternoon card “parties”, bus excursions, information sessions, computer workshops. The ideas you have are most welcome and will enable YOUR NBSRTSJ to respond to your needs. Your support of and contributions to our efforts is important. We very much appreciate and look forward to hearing from you!
We have also sought more involvement with active teachers by designating the 1st Vice-President the liaison role and we make every effort to be represented at such events as retirement seminars and the annual Branch 8 Retirement Dinner.

SCHOOL DAYS MUSEUM PROJECT
Your ‘School Days’ Museum is alive and well and continues to grow and improve. Even though it is located in Fredericton, your Board of Directors encourages the NBSRT Branches and individuals to consider it to be truly a provincial museum.
Typical Classroom of Early 1950's

For nearly twenty years, the inventory at the Museum has grown to contain thousands of items from schools of earlier years: textbooks, resource materials, teaching aids, photos, students’ work, archival materials, school furniture and fixtures. Rather than being a museum which concentrates only on the collection of items, it is hoped that the ‘School Days’ Museum will become more dynamic in exhibiting such articles. As more and more items continue to be received from generous donors, the space in the Museum’s two rooms has become very limited.
